Combatting BNP
Posted on 26-02-2010 Email To Friend      Print Version

A large crowd, including many Bromley members, attended the meeting of South East London Three Faiths Forum in Catford at the end of February. No doubt that reflected the degree of concern across many communities over the recent rise in support for the BNP, which was the subject of the meeting.

A representative of the Hope Not Hate campaign detailed the way in which it focuses on areas identified as being at particular risk of targetting by the BNP. Counter-campaigns are launched, exposing the lies that the organisation puts about, and local people - individuals and community groups, religious and political organisations - are mobilised to spread the true facts and to talk to their neighbours about the negative impact of any BNP victory; reduction in local amenities, possible job losses, aggravation of tensions between communities or different groups of workers and many more problems were mentioned. Plenty of literature was available, and people were invited to become involved.
